Round Five Castle Combe Double-header
ABS Racing were back in action in the British 250 Championship
today at Castle Combe. Alex Symon arrived at the Wiltshire track
yesterday evening with two races to prepare for (the first being a rerun
of Round Three that was abandoned at Silverstone). With the threat
of rain it was looking like being a complicated weekend for Alex's first
visit to the track.
Saturday started brightly on the weather front and Symon completed a
number of useful practice sessions to familiarise himself with the track.
Improving from a 1 minute 23 second lap in the first to a 1 minute 18
second lap in the final session before, what turned out to be an
important, qualifying. The session saw Alex make steady progress
into the 1:16s and qualify sixth on the grid. A very impressive
performance and adaptation to the new track!

As the lights went out, in the race, #32 Alex Symon made a cautious start
maintaining a position in the top ten for the first few laps.
Gradually getting into his stride Alex showed great spirit battling for
places. Quite soon he was back up to seventh place
before having a large moment coming out of Quarry. The near high
side saw Alex drop down one place to eighth.
However, he got his head down after that and fought up to his qualifying
position of sixth. Alex managed to hold off heavy pressure behind
him and finished the race strongly moving up to a credible fifth place.
Unfortunately the race was red flagged on the fourteenth lap as Symon
looked to be running a good pace, with a 1 minute 15 second lap, and had
the start been stronger looked likely to have challenged for fourth place.
More to come tomorrow...
